The Belfast Cowboys headlining benefit for Jack Jablonski

by Andrea Swensson

March 01, 2012

In a plot that seems like it's been pulled straight from the scripts of Friday Night Lights, the Twin Cities community continues to rally around 16-year-old hockey player Jack Jablonski, who suffered a paralyzing injury on New Year's Eve while playing for Benilde-St. Margaret's team the Red Knights. With the rest of his team preparing to head into the state hockey tournament, Jablonski's friends and family have now shifted their focus to setting up a fund to help him through his recovery period and support him as he moves forward with his life.

The Twin Cities music community is getting in on the love this weekend with JabbyFest, a concert at the Fine Line this Sunday night featuring performances by the Melvilles, Rocket Club, and Terry Walsh's Van Morrison cover band the Belfast Cowboys. Word has it that Laurie Lindeen of Zuzu's Petals is also planning on making a cameo at some point, and WCCO's Amelia Sataniello and Frank Vascellaro will host the event. Tickets are $25 and available online here.

For a preview of Sunday night's festivities, here's a video of the Belfast Cowboys doing "Moondance":
