St. Vincent cancels Wits appearance, will be replaced by Steven Page and Dave Pirner

by Andrea Swensson

June 14, 2012

With less than 36 hours before the show is scheduled to begin, musical guest St. Vincent has announced that she will not be able to make her scheduled appearance at MPR's improv-comedy-meets-musical-nerdery show Wits.

St. Vincent frontwoman Annie Clark was scheduled to join comedian Bobcat Goldthwait at tomorrow night's program along with host John Moe and musical director John Munson. In the wake of her cancellation, the event's organizers have announced that not one, but two separate make-up guests will perform in her stead: The Barenaked Ladies' Steven Page and Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner.

Here's the official statement from MPR:

Unfortunately St. Vincent's international travel schedule hit complications and she isn't able to make the trip to St. Paul. She apologizes for any and all inconveniences this causes, and hopes to be back in the future.

Despite this disappointing news, we are thrilled to announce an outstanding music guest for this Friday’s Wits. Steven Page was the lead singer and co-founder of The Barenaked Ladies, and will be joining Bobcat Goldthwait, host John Moe and music director John Munson on stage.

As an added surprise, Dave Pirner, lead singer of the Grammy-winning Soul Asylum, will stop by for a song.

St. Vincent recently wrapped up a U.S. tour (including a stop at First Ave just last month) and performed just last weekend in Tennessee at Bonnaroo; her next scheduled tour date is Wednesday, June 20 in Barcelona, Spain.

Coincidentally, St. Vincent also revealed today that she will be touring the U.S. this fall with David Byrne in support of their new collaborative album Love This Giant. That tour kicks off in Minneapolis on September 15 at the State Theater.
