Friday Five: Bollywood, Nathan Wold, Aiming for Aurora, and more

by Andrea Swensson

August 10, 2012

It's a wild weekend to be a fan of Minnesota music, and there are all kinds of chances to catch bands playing indoors and outdoors over the next few days. Here's a handful of fresh videos and tracks to get your party started off right:

1. Bollywood show us their world

Chances are you've seen many of the bars and venues featured in Bollywood's new video, "Young," but you've never seen them like this. Think Saturday morning cartoons spliced with a bit of Saturday afternoon daydrunkeness. Trippy!

2. Trampled by Turtles on Squidbillies

I'll admit, I didn't have the faintest idea what a Squidbilly was before news broke this week about Trampled by Turtles' cameo on the show, but I love seeing the dudes transformed into cartoons in this clip. Who's going to Somerset tonight to watch TBT open for My Morning Jacket?

3. Nathan Wold's 'Out-of-Body Experience'

And now for something completely different. I've been digging the droning, analog ambiance of Nathan Wold's project this week. He's a relatively new artist who just released his first album, Out-of-Body Experience, last month, and has been quietly posting a series of accompanying videos. Check out his latest track below, and hear more here

4. Aiming for Aurora are aiming for the '90s

This band was a new discovery for me this week, but if I didn't know any better I could have sworn it was a lost video from the MTV vaults, circa 1995. Is this Gavin Rossdale's long lost younger brother?

5. And speaking of MTV...

Tonight Jake Rudh is bringing the '80s jams to First Avenue's Mainroom for an "I WANT MY MTV" dance party, so I thought I'd dig out an older gem for us to close with today. Enjoy...
