Rock the Garden 2012 captured in MN Original special

by Andrea Swensson

March 28, 2013

Spring is in the air. Can you feel it? Birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and ever so slowly, those giant sidewalk burgs of dirt and snow and dissolving into the street. It can only mean one thing: Rock the Garden is just around the corner.

The lineup for Rock the Garden 2013 will be announced in just a few short weeks, and to tide us over MN Original is getting ready to unveil its 30-minute documentary-style special on last year's festivities. Performers the Hold Steady, Trampled by Turtles, Doomtree, tUnE-yArDs, and Howler will be featured alongside interviews from staff at the Current and the Walker Art Center, who partner together each year to present the one-day festival on the Walker's Open Field.

The MN Original Rock the Garden episode airs this Sunday night at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on tpt 2 (Twin Cities Public Television), and will premiere online tomorrow at noon in a special sneak-peak screening. Musicians Mike Mictlan of Doomtree and Ryan Young of Trampled by Turtles will be present at this online screening along with staff from MN Original and the Current, myself included.

And in the mean time, check out these special web-only extras, including full performances of songs by Doomtree, Trampled by Turtles, and Howler's cover of the Hüsker Dü classic "Don't Wanna Know if You Are Lonely" from Rock the Garden 2012.

Howler, "Don't Wanna Know if You Are Lonely"

Trampled by Turtles, "Alone"
