Record Store Day 2013: A Minnesota music lover’s guide

by Andrea Swensson

April 20, 2013

Record Store Day is coming up fast and will take over Minnesota's many independent stores on Saturday, April 20. For the uninitiated, Record Store Day is a call to action and a way to raise awareness of the many fine physical record and CD stores we still have in our midst, and the tradition seems to grow stronger each year here in the Twin Cities and beyond.

As with last year, Noiseland Industries is pressing a special limited-edition vinyl compilation that features tracks from over a dozen well-respected Minnesotan artists; American Buffalo, Vol. 2 (see the track list here) will be handed out for no charge at several locations with a qualifying purchase.

Rhymesayers is also offering up several limited-run releases for Record Store Day, many of which will be sold exclusively at Fifth Element. See the details on those offerings below, along with a rundown of all of the stores participating in Record Store Day here in Minnesota.

And keep an eye out in the Twin Cities for Steve Seel and Jill Riley from the Current's Morning Show, who will be making the rounds to area stores and handing out swag in the Current's van.
