Friday Five: New videos from Har Mar, Southside Desire, Trampled by Turtles, more

by Andrea Swensson

May 17, 2013

Hot off the YouTube presses, here's a handful of fresh videos to help you pass the time this afternoon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good weather this weekend, because we have no shortage of outdoor options at our fingertips. From all of the cool (and free) events happening at Art-A-Whirl to all the big shows happening in the clubs tonight and tomorrow night, you have no excuse for staying home this weekend.

Trampled by Turtles

Debuted by Conan O'Brien's site this week, Trampled by Turtles have a new a video for one of the more somber and sentimental songs off last year's Stars and Satellites (and that's sayin' something), "Midnight on the Interstate." I never thought I could be so invested in what's happening to a tiny man carved out of a wooden dowel, but there you have it.

Murs & Fashawn

Though the two stars of this video aren't local—both Murs and Fashawn are based in California—pretty much everything else about this video is rooted here in the Twin Cities. The rappers filmed two songs as part of the new Minneapolis-based Standing Room Only series, and are backed by familiar faces from the local scene: Twinkie Jiggles (a.k.a. Sean McPherson) and Peter Leggett of Heiruspecs, plus up-and-coming singer and keyboardist Kay Stresman.

Farewell Circuit

This study in repetition is the latest video from the Farewell Circuit, who will be releasing their new album We Were Wolves on June 7 at Icehouse.

Har Mar Superstar

This song is such a jam. I'm so happy this new Har Mar record came out at the beginning of the summer, because it makes me wanna drive around the lake with my windows rolled down.

Southside Desire

Another time-traveling band, Southside Desire, went back to the '60s for this mod performance on MN Original. Catch 'em at the Memory Lanes Block Party next Saturday, May 25—they'll play second to last on the main outdoor stage, right before Sean Anonymous.
