Atmosphere announce fourth annual Welcome to Minnesota tour

by Andrea Swensson

November 18, 2013

Now in its fourth year, Atmosphere's Welcome to Minnesota continues to grow. This year, the tour is so big that the state of Minnesota can't even contain it; in addition to taking their usual lap around greater Minnesota, Atmosphere will bring their tour over the border for a night in Fargo, North Dakota.

The tour will also start a month earlier than usual, with the kick-off taking place in Mankato on Wednesday, February 12. "We want to make sure we'll get it while there's still snow on the ground," Slug told the Morning Show's Steve Seel and Jill Riley today.

Support acts for this year's Welcome to Minnesota tour include promising young St. Paul rapper Dem Atlas—who was just signed to Atmosphere's label, Rhymesayers Entertainment, last week—plus No Bird Sing, Get Cryphy DJ Jimmy2Times, and a new collaboration between Toki Wright and Big Cats.

February 12: The Verizon Wireless Center, Mankato, MN

February 13: Clyde Iron Works, Duluth, MN

February 14: The Mayo Civic Center Auditorium, Rochester, MN

February 15: The Venue at the Hub, Fargo, ND

February 17: First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 22, with a fan presale beginning Wednesday.

"How do the kids say it? Turn it sideways? Turn it up? Whatever. We're going out into the snow to turn it up," Slug said.

In other Atmosphere news, when asked about a new album, Slug told the Morning Show, "We've got another baby coming in a couple of weeks, actually. So that's where most of the focus is going. But yeah, we did record a whole bunch of songs over the last couple of months, and I'm not sure what to do with them yet. So we'll see how I feel..."
