Haley Bonar is no stranger to local and national attention, having consistently earned praise for her solo and collaborative releases over the past several years. Buzz seems to be hitting new highs, though, for her long-awaited forthcoming album Last War, to be released May 20 on Graveface Records. Today, she stopped by the Current's studio to talk with Barb Abney as SPIN premiered her new track "No Sensitive Man."
Bonar described how she recorded most of the album in Minnesota, with the exception of a final track recorded at Dave Grohl's studio in L.A. She also discussed her project Gramma's Boyfriend—with which you can hear Bonar and see her in "80s figure-skating gear" next week at First Ave—and its own forthcoming new album, also on Graveface. "They've got a lot of great bands on there," said Bonar about Graveface, a label that's also home to local artist Martin Dosh. A release show for Last War is in the works, said Bonar.
