Doomtree share new track ‘.38 Airweight’

by Andrea Swensson

July 29, 2014

Are you keeping up with all of this? There's been a burst of activity out of the Doomtree camp this summer and it's shaping up to be an even busier fall for the crew. Before we get to today's news, let's do a quick recap:

  1. Dessa just released a new video for her solo song "Fighting Fish."

  2. P.O.S. is throwing a giant party in downtown Minneapolis on September 13 called "The Best Effing Show Ever," and Lazerbeak is playing the afterparty.

  3. Sims is returning to First Avenue to co-headline with Astronautalis on August 23, and just finished the final mixes of his new solo album, Field Notes, which is due out September 2.

  4. And the full seven-member crew will release a career-spanning book on August 26, just a few days before playing the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand as part of the MN Music-on-a-Stick showcase with Har Mar Superstar, Brother Ali, Bob Mould, Cloud Cult, and the Cactus Blossoms.

Get all that? Before you get too comfortable, the crew had even more news to share today: Their next full-crew album is nearing completion and they already have a track ready to share with the world.

"I think it's done," P.O.S. said. "We made a whole bunch of songs in the course of three or four cabin trips."

P.O.S. stopped by the Current studios this morning with Sims and Mike Mictlan to talk about the latest developments. They say there's no word on a release date for the record quite yet, though they expect it to come out in early 2015.

"We have working titles, but we're not telling yet. Album Two: Rocky's Revenge. Doomtree 3D," Sims joked.
