On Saturday, August 23, Chaperone Records is hosting a Block Rockin’ B-day Bash. The musical festivities will be taking place at the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Duluth, both outside and inside the new Red Herring Lounge. The event, celebrating the record label’s first birthday, will feature artists from the Twin Cities as well as Duluth. Charlie Parr, BNLX, and Two Harbors will headline the outdoor stage; Fever Dream and other acts will play indoors; and an after-party will feature Southwire, Communist Daughter, and Hippo Campus.

Chaperone Records, a Duluth-based label dedicated to producing high-quality and distinctive vinyl, began in August 2012 as a modest institution and quickly became one of the leading purveyors of Minnesota music. The label’s roster includes Actual Wolf, Retribution Gospel Choir, and Charlie Parr.

The Red Herring Lounge has very close ties to Duluth’s Chaperone Records. Bob Monahan, Chaperone’s founder and president, is also the creative mind behind this new, artsy music venue. Set up inside of an old Lake Superior Fish Company building, the space evokes both the city’s past and its present—as many of our listeners discovered when we hosted a showcase there last month. The venue is now also home to the record label, and Monahan is building a recording studio in the basement.

The Block Rockin’ B-day Bash kicks off at 3:00 on August 23.  Tickets ($8, or $12 with after-party) are now on sale. Here are the set times:

Hello fellow Charlie Parr fans!!!!!!!!! I can’t make it up to Duluth next weekend, but I did just score my tickets to see him @ Trollhaugen on August 30th! (Yes, Trollhaugen, the ski/snowboard/zipline/adventure park in Nowheresville, WI.) He’s playing their first ever outdoor Brew and Music fest on the hills. Tickets are only $10, so if you can’t get to the B’day bash, you can catch him there! I think the only way to buy tickets are on the website. http://www.trollhaugen.com, or I’m sure you can probably buy them at the gate, too.
