Taking a trip down the Giant Slide with Sims

by Andrea Swensson

August 26, 2014

It's a busy week for Sims, who is getting ready to play the State Fair Grandstand this Saturday with the rest of his Doomtree crew (not to mention Brother Ali, Bob Mould, Har Mar Superstar, Cloud Cult, and the Cactus Blossoms) as part of Minnesota Music-on-a-Stick just a few days before releasing his first album in three years, the Field Notes EP. So I knew that he would be pressed for time yesterday when I caught up with him at MPR's State Fair booth, where he had just finished performing a few songs and doing a live interview with Mary Lucia on the Current.

With the chaos of the fairgrounds all around us, Sims and I decided to do what any multitasking rapper or blogger would do: We ran over to the nearest ride and conducted a mini-interview while climbing the steps and whipping down the Giant Slide.

We managed to cram three quick questions into the 60 seconds it takes to reach the top of the slide, and still had time to enjoy the free-fall before handing back our burlap mats. Wheeeee!

For more from Doomtree at the State Fair, visit the MPR booth or tune into the Current today at 4:30 p.m. for a special appearance and performance from Dessa.
