Friday Five: Verskotzi, Dan Wilson, and more new Minnesota music videos

by Andrea Swensson

November 21, 2014

Happy Friday! I'm going to start things off this week with one of my favorite "new to me" artists—who has actually been making music in the Twin Cities for a while now, and already had a full-length album to his name by the time I came around to him—before moving on to some other more familiar names and a couple more emerging acts.

Verskotzi

With an excellent new EP, Waving, due out next month, I'm pleased to help Verskotzi premiere this new video for the single "Sleepless One." Grab the song as a free download here, and get ready for his big EP-release show on December 18 at the Turf Club with American Scarecrows.

Dan Wilson

It's been fun to watch Dan Wilson re-embrace his love of visual art and incorporate it into his music-making this year, from the illustrated liner notes in his latest album, Love Without Fear, to the hand-drawn set lists he distributed on his "Words and Music" tour. His latest project is a lyric video for the title track of the album, which features animated drawings by Dan himself.

Harbor and Home

Fans of the Avett Brothers will find a lot to love in this debut video from Harbor and Home, a Minneapolis indie-folk band who are "dedicated to the sole purpose of being a light in the darkest times of life." The track "I'll Be Around" is featured on their album Dark Days, which was released earlier this year.

Kyle Skye

"For You" is the latest offering from Northside Minneapolis native Kyle Skye, who filmed most of the video for this slinky hip-hop track in downtown Minneapolis at the Spades Nightclub.

Nicholas David

Nicholas David takes a turn toward gospel with this new song, "Fresh," which will appear on his forthcoming Make Hope EP. The song is set to stunning imagery from globetrotting filmmaker Dan Huiting, who both shot and directed the video.
