Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL suddenly delete Twitter, Facebook, Instagram accounts

by Jay Gabler

November 25, 2014

With no explanation or warning, Prince and his band 3RDEYEGIRL have suddenly deleted their Twitter and Facebook accounts, formerly located at Twitter.com/3RDEYEGIRL and Facebook.com/Prince.

Star Tribune music critic Chris Riemenschneider noticed that they had suddenly gone dark, and caught a screengrab of the Twitter account with a profile image changed to a masked Prince putting his finger to his lips, just before the account disappeared entirely. As Riemenschneider also notes, all but three of the videos on Prince's YouTube channel have also disappeared. The "Princetagram" account? That's gone too.

Prince has long had a stormy relationship with the Internet, but this year he seemed to be warming to the use of social media—using his new Twitter account, with his 3RDEYEGIRL bandmates, to announce shows and appearances. Prince even recently posted the above selfie to his Facebook page, noting that he's just not cool with "everybodyelsies."

Until such time as Prince's Twitter and Facebook accounts return, the closest things we have to official Prince social media accounts are the Paisley Park After Dark Facebook page.
