Today’s Music News: Alt-J and Royal Blood lead Brit Awards nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 2015 Brit Awards, commonly called the British Grammys. Contending for the British Group award are Alt-J, Royal Blood, Coldplay, One Direction, and Clean Bandit; Alt-J and Royal Blood are also nominated for British Album of the Year, along with Sam Smith, George Ezra, and Ed Sheeran. Rivers Cuomo of Weezer has no idea why he keeps receiving fan mail apparently meant for Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd. It's unclear whether someone just has the wrong address or if the seemingly misdirected mail is a long-running prank. (SPIN)
Mariah Carey is heading to Vegas, and she's going to stay for a while: the pop star, the third-bestselling female artist of all time (behind Barbra Streisand and Madonna), has booked two runs of shows this coming May and July at Caesars Palace. At 43, Snoop Dogg is a grandfather. The rapper's son Corde Broadus and Corde's wife Jessica Kyzer are the parents of a new baby named Zion. Snoop's next album, Bush, was produced by Pharrell and is set for release in March. (NME)
