Friday Five: Pill Hill, Hippo Campus, Nsikak, and more new Minnesota music videos
February 27, 2015
It's all shooting flames, peeling paint, face masks, and roving gangs in this week's video roundup. Buckle up. We're heading over to the dark side...
Hippo Campus
To celebrate their signing to New York label Grand Jury, Hippo Campus just released a new video for the song "Souls" from their debut EP, Bashful Creatures. If you're a fan of Hippo Campus's earlier video, "Little Grace," you may see some similarities here—the fruit, the poses each member strikes at the beginning of the video—before the film takes a darker turn.
Pill Hill
Pill Hill snuck into the abandoned Hollywood Theater in Northeast Minneapolis to film this video for "Butterscotch House," which was directed by Jeremy Krzmarzick.
AATS
AATS—known previously as Aaron and the Sea—just released a beautiful, mesmerizing video for their song "Cloak & Dagger." The duo is getting ready to release a remixed version of their most recent EP, Cloak & Dagger, on March 2, with a show at the Kitty Cat Klub on March 7.
Nsikak
The dizzying dream sequence that unfolds in Nsikak's video, "HISTORY," ends up being an ideal complement to the song's cyclical, unnerving beat and Nsikak's nonstop flow. The 23-year-old MC just released his debut project, These Moments, as a free download. Heads up: Lyrics are explicit.
Allan Kingdom
Did you hear about this? The biggest Minnesota music news headline this week was Allan Kingdom's involvement on Kanye West's new single, "All Day." Kiiiiind of a big deal, right? Ye invited Allan to join him onstage at the Brit Awards along with the track's other special guest, Theophilus London. And now we know what it looks like when Taylor Swift gets down to Allan Kingdom.
