Rhymesayers enters the boom box business – in a small way

by Andy Moe

February 05, 2015

Minneapolis hip-hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment has entered the boom box market - and, simultaneously, the phone case market. iPhone case maker PERI has successfully held an Indiegogo campaign to attach high-definition speakers to your phone. As a part of the campaign, Rhymesayers created a special edition skin for their fans.

The campaign, which ends tomorrow, reached its fundraising goal of $100,000 and now has over $125,000 in pledges. The device is designed to fit onto an iPhone, with the ability to charge the phone and play music via a Bluetooth/WiFi link. Indiegogo contributors at the $99 level can receive a case with a Rhymesayers skin - and contributors at the $119 tier will also get a Rhymesayers hoodie. At the $749 level, contributors receive a VIP experience at the Rhymesayers music festival Soundset.

A unique function of the case is its ability to sync with other PERI cases and play the same music throughout a room, simultaneously. Given the recent popularity of smaller wireless boom boxes, this product is designed with portability in mind, reducing your speaker luggage down to a large phone case. Pre-orders are still continuing for the device, starting at $99 for iPhone 5, 5s and 6 models. They are expected to ship this May.

Atmosphere frontman and Rhymesayers co-founder Slug recently spoke to the Star Tribune about the case, saying the speakers can "bring parents and their children together for endless hours of living-room dance parties."
