Today’s Music News: Whole Lotta Surprising Duets

Concerts and festivals this past weekend brought out a number of unexpected duets. In Phoenix, Foo Fighters were joined on stage by Jewel, and together they covered Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” (Rolling Stone)

In Nashville, Steven Tyler joined Taylor Swift for a rendition of Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” (Rolling Stone)

Next day, Swift paired up with none other than Mick Jagger for a duet performance of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” (Rolling Stone)

At the Global Citizen Fest in New York, Ariana Grande helped Coldplay debut a new song, “Amazing Day.” (Rolling Stone)

Also at the Global Citizen Fest in New York, Beyoncé and Pearl Jam collaborated on a cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.” (Rolling Stone)

One of the more surprising mashups of the weekend, however, was a release by Run the Jewels, who dropped a cat-centric remix of their album RTJ2, cleverly called Meow the Jewels. It’s a available as a free download from the Run the Jewels website. (Pitchfork)

In Tempe, Ariz., 10 to 12 people were injured at the Summer Ends Music Festival when an unexpected rush to the stage occurred during reggae band Rebelution's set. At least nine people were taken to hospital and others were attended to by medical personnel on the scene. (Pitchfork)

In New Jersey, rapper Fetty Wap was injured when the motorcycle he was driving was involved in a crash with an automobile. The rapper was reportedly responsive before being taken to hospital on a stretcher. (Pitchfork)

And on a happier note, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and her husband, director Barnaby Clay, became parents this weekend, welcoming a baby boy. Karen O shared the announcement on Instagram. (Stereogum)
