Authorities, media, fans gather at Paisley Park

Authorities, media, and fans gathered at Paisley Park this morning in response to a medical call that proved, sadly, to be the news of music legend Prince’s death at age 57.

Last week, Prince was reportedly treated for dehydration in Illinois after an unscheduled stop of a plane he was on while returning from a performance in Georgia. He recovered and hosted a dance party at Paisley Park on Saturday.

His Purpleness better be okay! 2016 has been a terrible year for entertainment legends.

    • Tammyzz

It would be so strange right after Vanity.

  • Tammyzz

I told them here at work that if Prince is gone–I’m gonna need bereavement leave. This can’t be happening.

    • inorganic

      He’s only 57…

      • Tammyzz

        Just like Vanity . . .

      • Tammyzz

I’m going to be watching Reg Chapman’s Twitter.

      • Mr. Toad

        Unfortunately, 57 isn’t young…

        • Tammyzz

It isn’t old either. Not a normal age of death in the U.S.

  • DJ Asmus

Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved with this situation.

  • Ben Chorn

    TMZ reporting Prince is dead.

    • Denise Kiesow Houk

How would they know before anyone else?

      • Bucky

They get (read: pay) insiders to send them information. Often that gets them a scoop ahead of mainstream media.

    • Kabel Lefto

TMZ is a tabloid. They mess up all the time.

  • Deb

    Not confirmed yet.

  • sajaworski

    I just can’t

  • Melani Weber

TMZ is down. Can’t get on the site right now. Wow.

  • Lanky

Is it possible that the gardener or somesuch died?

    • Kayleigh

Doesn’t sound like it after hearing Andrea on the radio

      • Lanky

Plus I saw it reported that his jet had to make a medical emergency landing for him last week. 2016 is shaping up to be a shit year.

  • Jenzi

NO. No no no no no no…!

  • Jonathan

    Ho…lee…shit

  • inorganic

He was rocking until the end – and died in the studio, doing what he loved.
Thank you, Prince for sharing your gifts with the world. The music world is a lot darker and a whole lot less purple without you.

  • Tammyzz

Fuck. Jade, will you play The Ladder?

    • Deb

      Yeah, I’m already crying.

      • Tammyzz

I told our office we need to shut down. And the Wells Fargo Tower needs to have purple lights for a month.

  • new48er

C’mon, Current. Let’s have an update. I’m going to trust an MPR news source more than TMZ.

He was always just so bad-ass.

      • Lanky

“bad ass” was the precise phrase I thought of…there were few who were bad asser.

        • Tammyzz

He was just such a huge part of my life.

          • Lanky

Sorry for your (and the world’s) loss.

    • Daniel Lewis

There was some constant feedback when the guitar landed and I loved how NO ONE dared to touch that guitar until they went off air.

      • Lanky

It’s probably still there on that stage…

  • Tammyzz

Prince + Vanity = together forever.

  • Tammyzz

    Chyna died too.

  • Katia

Didn’t the current report Prince was working on a book to be released next year? I was so looking forward to that.

  • Lanky

Current just sent a notification email. Kinda wish they had chosen a different photo, however.

Prince and Bowie are the toughest for me.

    • Susan Grace

      Me too, love them both.

  • Tammyzz

OMG! They were playing songs from For You. I love that album. I was out for some retail therapy.

    • Rob

      Thank God for therapy!….no, I’m serious….okay, I can’t make up my mind. Sorry. .

      • Rob

So, got any more catnip? O.o

  • Katia

My stream isn’t working SOS :'(

  • Tammyzz

In wonder if they’ll let this album stray into Head and Sister . . .

  • Jonathan

Turned on the Twins game feed. Just…can’t.

    • Tammyzz

Great show. Too bad we didn’t have decent video cameras in the 80s.

  • Tammyzz

I have to admit, I was looking forward to Annie Christian.

  • Tammyzz

I guess my chances of marrying him have been greatly diminished.

        • Tammyzz

I don’t see any tears in your eye.

          • Rob

:) There are, Tammy, but as I listen to each song they play it brings a smile to my face.

          • Rob

This one,”Darling Nikki,” brings a big smile to my face!

  • Rob

He lived, he loved, he kicked ass on the guitar! I’m going to go have some beers with my friends and celebrate Prince’s life and work. God bless all.

    • Tammyzz

I will do a Tootsie Pop shot in honor of Prince tonight.

  • Tammyzz

Not a lot of guys wearing ass-out pants either.

    • Rob

      Well, not on weekdays.

  • Ben Jamin

There are VERY few artists that come along and are truly different, who have the ability to influence. Very few who are their own breed, not like the rest of us and not like other artists. Very few who change the musical world as we know it. I can think of exactly two. Sadly, both are now gone, and only months apart. What a cruel coincidence.

Both Prince and Bowie encapsulated what it means to be a true rock star. They lived life always remaining in act, never going out of character. Because of this they both remained “cool” till the very end. I can’t think of anyone else who’s been able to pull this off like these two men.

    What a sad day.

  • jo

Hey, Regulars. I don’t have anything to add to the discussion; I’m just too damn sad. But it’s good to see you all here. Peace, friends.
