Sims, “Brutal Dance”

Sims and James Gundersen (direction/camera/edit/VFX) get it right with this project's whippy iceberg flair. "Brutal Dance" is off Sims's new album, More Than Ever, and it's one of the best local videos of the year.

Pert Near Sandstone, “Animal Instinct”

More brand-new music! Roots quintet Pert Near Sandstone (mandolinist/fiddler Nate Sipe, banjo player Kevin Kniebel, guitarist J Lenz, bassist Justin Bruhn, and clog/fiddle player Matt Cartier) drop their seventh project, Discovery of Honey, today. Their decade-long collaboration has yielded huge achivements (for example, the founding of Eau Claire's Blue Ox Festival), and the Harry Reynolds-directed video is one more reminder of the band's unpretentious excellence.

Black Market Brass, “Gloom”

Shortly after stopping by our studios this fall, Black Market Brass (guitarist Mitch Sigurdson, guitarist Hans Kruger, trumpeter Cameron Kinghorn, keyboardist Sam William Harvey-Carlson, trombonist Ryan Splinter, drummer Murphy Janssen, baritone saxophonist Cole Pulice, bassist Charlie Bruber, tenor saxophonist Jared Jarvis, and percussionist/video editor David Tullis) release a tricked-out recording of their live show.

The New Granadas, “Address Unknown”

The New Granadas take the scenic route in "Address Unknown," a snappy, likable song that sounds great on a loop. Catch them at Rock the Terrace in Robbinsdale tomorrow or at Gluek's on Nov. 11.

Humbird, “August”

Fresh off an 11-stop Midwest tour, Siri Undlin (of Undlin & Wolfe) shows off solo project Humbird. Undlin partnered with Colorado Springs's Mountain Fold Books, an independent zine and poetry organization, to make this video, and the calm of the bookshelves pairs well with the song's graceful fingerpicking. A Humbird EP should be on the way this winter. _
