Hymie’s Vintage Records donating half of today’s sales to Daniel Levy’s memory
January 18, 2012
Hearts are still aching in the Twin Cities this week as we mourn the tragic loss of young artist Daniel Levy, son of Honeydogs frontman and omnipresent scene staple Adam Levy, and today the South Minneapolis-based Hymie's Vintage Records is stepping forward to offer friends and fans a way to pay tribute to Daniel's memory.
Today only, the store will donate half of all sales made to Four Winds Saratoga, a mental health facility in his hometown of Saratoga Springs, New York.
Co-owner Dave Hoenack wrote a short post on Hymie's website explaining the decision to make such a touching gesture. "A friend of mine took his own life nearly four years ago, and it must take longer than that to get over the heartbreak because I’m not even close," he wrote. "Losing a loved one to suicide is a unique and horrible trauma, a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone."
Daniel's father Adam, meanwhile, took a moment to address his massive following on Facebook and speak publicly for the first time since his son's death. "Words fail to give real shape to Daniel Levy's tragic exit from our lives," he wrote. "While his illness conquered him in this world, his lengthy struggle and death was heroic. Your generosity and love buoy the body and spirit at the absolute lowest of moments. Thank you all so much."
Hymie's Vintage Records is located at 3820 E. Lake St., and they are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
