The New Standards cover Robyn, preview next week’s holiday shows

November 30, 2012

What's that you say? You'd like to start out your Friday by hearing the lead singer of a legendary Minnesota rock band—oh, say, the Suburbs—channel everyone's favorite Swedish pop star, Robyn? Maybe while watching a cinematic, beautifully shot new video? While also scoping out how John Munson's Munstache is coming along this holiday season?

Well, girlfriends and boyfriends, I'm here to make your dreams come true.

With the New Standards' series of holiday shows at the Fitz just around the corner, the band sent over a sparkly new video that features Chan Poling, John Munson, and Steve Roehm performing a delicate and daring version of Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend," which they've reworked into the soon-to-be-holiday classic "Call Your Boyfriend." They filmed the video at the Women's Club in Minneapolis, and it serves as a nice preview of their upcoming shows.

"It was quite an undertaking over at The Women's Club, and one that we never would have imagined possible in our wildest scottish dreams of thrift," says Munson. "Hell, there was even a lighting truck, fercrissakes! Producer Megan Huber and director Wyatt McDill made it all happen. We just bounced ideas with them and they cranked out the vision for it."

The video also features choreography work by Joe Chvala and Joanne Spencer. Watch the results below, and get more info on their shows happening December 7th, 8th, and 9th right here.
