On this week's Local Show, we devoted most of the two-hour episode to spinning cuts of many of the big Minnesota releases due out this fall. The Suburbs, Si Sauvage (August 27)

It's a big year for the Suburbs, who are about to release their first studio album in 27 years, Si Sauvage, at the end of the month. Fan support for the new album broke records here in Minnesota, with their Kickstarter netting a whopping $73,000, and the first single off the album, "Turn the Radio On," seems to signify that the Suburbs never really did leave the building.

They'll celebrate the new release by playing the State Fair's Grandstand on August 30 as part of MN Music-on-a-Stick, and we're celebrating them all month long on Local Current and the Local Show.

Ginkgo, Manopause (September 3)

With Tapes 'n Tapes on hiatus, frontman Josh Grier is funneling his songwriting efforts into a new project. Ginkgo is upbeat, fun, and fresh pop music, a bit more lighthearted than Tapes 'n Tapes fare, and features some familiar players from the local rock scene—drummer Jeremy Hanson of Tapes is in the band along with brother Jake Hanson, Rob Skoro, and Adam Switlick. Moonstone Continuum, Salon Edition (September 3)

Prog lovers Moonstone Continuum are landing their spaceship in downtown Miami this fall with an album of cosmic lounge music that sounds—if the first single is any indication, anyway—like a more guitar-driven sequel to the Gayngs album Relayted. Schmaltz never sounded so good.

The Cloak Ox, Shoot the Dog (September 17)

When the Cloak Ox blasted onto the scene in 2011 and quickly swept the annual Picked to Click poll, it was hard to tell if the band would be a main focus for its busy members or more of a one-off collaboration. Thankfully, the project seems to have grown legs, and the quartet—Andrew Broder, Jeremy Ylvisaker, Mark Erickson, and Martin Dosh—have spent the past year and a half on an album that more fully represents their potential, building on the punchiness of their debut EP and fleshing out their sound with more dynamic and lyrical twists.

The Blind Shake, Key to a False Door (September 17)

It's no secret here in the Twin Cities that the Blind Shake are a peerless live act. Now, they'll get the chance to increase their footprint nationally, as respected garage label Castle Face Records will be releasing their latest collection of muscular, steam engine punk this fall.

Caroline Smith, Half About Being a Woman (September 27)

If you listen to the Local Show, chances are you've heard us raving about Caroline Smith's new direction. Over the past year she's enlisted the help of backing singers Lizzo and Hannah von der Hoff to help amp up her live shows and execute a searing soul sound. Smith's new album will be the first to document this new groove, and she'll celebrate Half About Being a Woman on September 27 with a show at First Avenue's Mainroom.

Lizzo, Lizzobangers (October 1)

Speaking of Lizzo, the busy vocalist and rapper who has been everywhere these days, it's almost time for her much-anticipated solo album to drop. Lizzobangers is a collaboration with Doomtree's Lazerbeak, and the first single indicates that this might be her fieriest, most spitfire work yet.

Poliça, Shulamith (October 22)

Guaranteed to be one of the biggest Minnesota releases of the year, hard-touring electro-R&B group Poliça are getting ready to launch their second album, Shulamith. Named after a famous feminist author, the album moves forward from Give You the Ghost's wrenching heartbreak and into more abstract territory, taking on topics like superficiality and vanity in the lead single "Tiff."

Actual Wolf, Actual Wolf (October 22)

After an impressive debut pair of EPs last year, Actual Wolf (a.k.a. songwriter, guitarist, and drummer Eric Pollard) will issue his first full-length this fall. And if the first track is any indication, his folk compositions have only gotten more refined. Mr. Wolf's new album is coming out on Duluth's Chaperone Records.

Ruben, The Orchard (November 12)

It seems all too appropriate that this '60s-inspired Stillwater bar band is pressing their latest onto vinyl. Part Stones, part surf-rock, Ruben's sound should appeal old-school audiophiles hungry for classic rock melodies and harmonies.
