Today’s Music News: Bob Marley will be the face of the first global marijuana brand

by Staff

November 19, 2014

With the blessing of Bob Marley's family, the reggae icon will be the face of Marley Natural, "a premium cannabis brand rooted in the life and legacy" of the late musician. In addition to loose-packed "heirloom Jamaican" cannabis buds, oil, and concentrate, Marley Natural will sell items including pot-infused creams. "As Daddy would say," said Marley's daughter Cecilia, "'Make way for the positive day.'" (Billboard)

"I'd like to thank the talented wrestlers, managers, and valets I've worked with," wrote Billy Corgan as he announced his decision to part ways with Resistance Pro Wrestling, where he's been serving as "creative director." Among Corgan's post-wrestling activities: writing and co-producing a 20-minute Broadway musical about characters from Greek mythology in just 48 hours' time. (Consequence of Sound)

In Big Eyes, the Tim Burton movie that opens on Christmas Day, Lana Del Rey will be the singing voice of a character played by Amy Adams. Del Rey contributes two new songs to the film, and Oscar handicappers are already speculating as to whether one of them will net Del Rey the Oscar nomination she failed to land with "Young and Beautiful" from last year's Great Gatsby. (Billboard)

U2 will be releasing a "video album" (a la Beyoncé) of their new album Songs of Innocence, called—what else?—Films of Innocence. (Billboard)

Meanwhile, with U2's Tonight Show residency postponed in the wake the accident, Jimmy Fallon and the Roots filled in for them with a performance of the band's 1988 hit "Desire."

Angel Olsen wowed the Internet with a new video for her song "Windows."

Free, ad-supported music streaming earned more criticism from Sony—whose chief financial officer expressed skepticism about free services, and said the company is "very encouraged" by the growth of paid streaming services—as well as from the ever-pithy Garth Brooks, who called YouTube "the devil."

Willow Smith and her brother Jaden gave a joint interview to the New York Times, and everyone spent all day Tuesday picking their favorite quotes from it. Ours, from Jaden: "Driver’s ed? What’s up? I still haven’t been to driver’s ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can’t see how driver’s ed is really helping them out."

This year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, taking place Dec. 2 in London and airing Dec. 9 on CBS, will feature performances by Taylor SwiftHozier, Ariana Grande, and Ed Sheeran. (Billboard) There was no word of Bob Dylan's participation, but we can still hope for a surprise.
