Cloud Cult have been featured by Rolling Stone as one of a group of enviro-friendly artists, in the company of Adele, Radiohead, Neil Young, U2, the Roots, and Björk.

The band's conservation efforts go beyond buying eco-friendly paint for the artists known to paint during their shows: in 1997, the band's husband-and-wife leaders Craig and Connie Minowa built a recording studio on an organic farm powered by geothermal energy. For their western Wisconsin studio, Earthology Records, they re-use CD cases, print album liners on recycled paper with soy ink, and package them in compostable shrink wrap, according to Rolling Stone. In 2009, they launched environmental advocacy nonprofit Earthology Institute.

Lately, Earthology Records has been used for more than recycling. The band recently released a video of themselves recording new track "Every Little Thing." They have not yet announced when a new album can be expected.
