Mickey Murray at the Cedar Cultural Center
January 23, 2012
Rarities imprint Secret Stash Records hosted the first local appearance by late-'60s soul singer Mickey Murray, who performed songs off his recently reissued 1970 album People Are Together backed by an ace lineup of Twin Cities musicians. The band was led by Secret Stash's Cory Wong and also featured label co-founder Eric Foss on drums. Murray was visibly moved by the turnout and the opportunity to perform his old songs, and spent most of the set grinning ear to ear. Earlier in the night, Jim McGuinn and Bill DeVille from the Current and Hipshaker DJs Brian Engel and Greg Waletski spun classic soul records and warmed up the room. ALL PHOTOS BY BEN CLARK.
