MaLLy premieres new Free on the 15th track ‘Once We’re Kings’

by Andrea Swensson

February 15, 2012

With the Welcome to Minnesota tour only a week out, Atmosphere tourmate MaLLy is taking advantage of his time in the spotlight to drop a new installment in his "Free on the 15th" series, which, as the name suggests, offers up a free track from MaLLy and producer the Sundance Kid on the 15th of each month. This month's installment is a track called "Once We're Kings," a no-holds-barred declaration of MaLLy's standing in the scene that could be seen as a sly counterpoint to Doomtree's latest album/decree, No Kings.

For MaLLy, however, monarchy involves storming the city on a bicycle chariot. "A friend and I thought it would be fun and a dangerous idea to ride a three-wheel bike around different parts of Minneapolis with nothing but the money in our pockets and a bottle of Macallan 18 at our fingertips," he explains. "It was basically our way of saying 'We do what want, when we want, how we want...' Kings do that right? Thought so. Oh and since we're broke we had to shoot the entire thing with no permits and almost got run over on Nicollet Mall."

As with all of his Free on the 15th tracks, "Once We're Kings" is available for download on his Soundcloud page. Check out past tracks and download this month's song in the widget below.

MaLLy's next full-length album, The Last Great..., is due out this May. A release date and party will be announced soon.
