Memory Lanes Block Party lineup announced for 2012

by Andrea Swensson

March 28, 2012

It's typically one of the first signs that summer is upon us, but this year the Memory Lanes Block Party announcement comes toward the end of an unsettlingly warm winter. But hey -- we'll take it. The block party is traditionally the first in a long series of outdoor musical events that will take us through the end of September, and this year's organizers did a fine job of booking three days of free music that will usher in the season in style.

Each day takes on its own feel, with the block party's kick-off, Friday, May 25, dedicated mostly to punk bands, while Saturday hosts Chicago mash-up duo the Hood Internet and a host of Twin Cities indie bands, while Sunday is the most eclectic offering with a handful of roots groups, a reunion from early-'80s garage rock revivalists the Hypstrz, and a headlining set from Nashville surf band Los Straitjackets.

Peruse the full lineup below. The block party will kick off at 3 p.m. each day and is free and open to all ages.
