89.3 The Current is getting in on the State Fair Grandstand action this summer with a lineup of Minnesotan acts. On Friday, August 31, the station is presenting “Minnesota Music on-a-Stick” with Semisonic, The Jayhawks, Jeremy Messersmith, Dessa, and Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles. August 31 is also MPR Day at the Fair.
As someone who missed the Semisonic reunion show last month out in Mound, I’m particularly interested in seeing their set out at the Fair this year; it will be the most frequently that band has played in town in quite some time. On air this morning Munson said that playing together in Mound “lit the fuse” to perform together again in their hometown.
It will also serve as Dessa’s first solo show in the Twin Cities since she sold out the O’Shaughnessy in April.
