West Bank Music Festival reveals 2012 lineup

by Andrea Swensson

July 31, 2012

Now in its third year, the City Pages West Bank Music Festival will return to the Cedar-Riverside area on Saturday, August 18. After a modest start in 2010, last year's edition expanded to include a main stage set up right on Cedar Ave.; likewise, this year will feature music on two outdoor stages in the early evening before moving things indoors for a smorgasbord of nighttime entertainment.

Astronautalis -- fresh off headlining the Bastille Day Block Party this month -- will perform on the main stage outdoors alongside MaLLy, Bloodnstuff, and Wiping Out Thousands. After 10 p.m., the action will spread into seven different neighborhood venues and include acts like Food Pyramid, Malamanya, and the previously reported reunion of Red Fox Grey Fox. The setup provides the Twin Cities with the closest thing we have to a mini-SXSW, while still maintaining the distinctive flavor of the West Bank.

Here's an overview of the 27 acts performing this year; I'll be sure to add set times as soon as I have them.

(Side note: The only West Bank venue not on the list, the Cabooze, is also hosting an all-local lineup on its plaza August 18 with Pert Near Sandstone, Dead Man Winter, Lucy Michelle, and more; tickets for that show will be sold separately.)
