Friday Five: Bloodnstuff release first video, rap supergroup Hecatomb debuts, and more

by Andrea Swensson

August 03, 2012

It's been a busy week in local music news, so let's get right down to business: Here's a handful of the best tracks and videos to surface over the past seven days. Party on, man.

1. Bloodnstuff go blacknwhite

Bloodnstuff unleashed their debut video this week: a brooding, black-and-white performance of "Oh You Petty Failures" directed by established graphic designer and budding filmmaker Matt Visionquest. Looking good! In related news, Bloodnstuff will release their debut on vinyl tomorrow night at the Turf Club.

2. Dosh debuts new material

Aural mixologist Martin Dosh stopped by the Local Show last weekend to debut some brand-new material in advance of tonight's 7" release show at the Entry. Watch him construct the dizzying layers of "Golden Silver" while somehow remaining cool as a cucumber in this video by Nate Ryan:

3. Hecatomb define the word 'supergroup'

Looking for further proof that the Twin Cities music scene is a hotbed of collaboration and cross-breeding? Then check out Hecatomb, who debuted a whopping 25-track, 20-member effort this week. Listen to the first single, "The Class-Sicks," here:

4. Culture Cry Wolf team up with Sims

This video gives me the creepy-crawlies, but it's worth squirming a little in order to hear how well Sims and Culture Cry Wolf emcee Botzy complement each other's flows.

5. Adam Svec takes us on a tour of Uptown Minneapolis

This is from last year, but too good to pass up: Rock band the Futiles recruited singer-songwriter Adam Svec to take a slightly harder approach to his delivery in this track, "Dissonance," and it comes packaged with a walking tour of the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. Twin Cities rock trivia time: Can you identify the house shown at 1:32?
