Premiere: New Astronautalis and Alpha Consumer videos by rising filmmaker Dan Huiting

by Andrea Swensson

August 05, 2012

The last few years have seen an uptick in professionally shot, artistic music videos in the Twin Cities.

Burgeoning filmmakers like Isaac Gale and Dave Jensen (who often work as a duo), Adam J. Dunn, Chris Hadland, and Andre Durand are examples of the many who have established themselves locally in recent years; whose work frequently appears in our weekly Friday Five video roundup; and who are collectively raising the bar for what we can expect from independent music videos.

And leading the calvacade is Dan Huiting, who cut his teeth developing the popular City of Music series for MPLS.TV (which has since been picked up by Pitchfork), and has gone on to direct videos for Bon Iver, Kathleen Edwards, and Cloud Cult and work as the director of photography at TPT's weekly arts series MN Original.

As part of this week's Local Show, we caught up with Dan to chat about the latest developments in his multi-faceted career (audio of that chat will soon be archived here), and we're also helping him debut a pair of brand-new videos that were filmed by Dan at TPT: one featuring rapper Astronautalis and another featuring Jeremy Ylvisaker's space-rock band Alpha Consumer.

Enjoy!
