Prince working with city of St. Paul to book outdoor show
August 24, 2012
Strong rumors are swirling today that the city of St. Paul is in talks with Prince to produce an outdoor event, and that it's tentatively scheduled for September 15. It's likely it won't happen at Harriet Island or the Xcel, but in total Prince fashion, the city and Prince are exploring unique sites, including a few that have never hosted a concert before.
More information is expected to come out next week, once details like location, permits, and security have been decided and contracts have been signed between the Purple One and the city. As of now, the city has only told The Current that they are "exploring the possibility" and that it would be an all-day event. We were also told that there are a number of artists involved, and that there would be a strong charity element to the show.
If this is all true, it would be Prince's first show in the Twin Cities (aside from sporadic, last-minute gigs at his Paisley Park) since 2007.
This gloriously vague information opens the door for all sorts of speculation. Do you think they'll go through with it? And if Prince is the headliner, who do you think might join him on the bill?
