Friday Five: Garrison Keillor does Dylan, Toki Wright climbs MTV’s charts, more
September 21, 2012
We've almost made it. The weekend is just a few hours away, and there's all kinds of fun stuff to do once we're off the clock. To help your last few Friday hours pass by, here's a handful of hot new video and audio clips from Minnesotan artists big and small:
1. Garrison Keillor sings Bob Dylan
Yes, you read that right. To kick off the latest season of A Prairie Home Companion, Minnesota icon Garrison Keillor paid tribute to another influential figure from his home state. Listen as Keillor and singer Holly Jones cover Bob Dylan's new single, "Duquesne Whistle," off Tempest.
2. Toki Wright lands on the MTV Hip-Hop Charts
Rhymesayers artist and activist-about-town Toki Wright debuted a new video on MTV's site this month, and already his single "High Definition" has climbed up the massive media company's hip-hop charts. (Watching MTV's version helps his placement on their charts, but if the video below doesn't work you can also watch it on YouTube.) Wright's new video was directed by burgeoning Twin Cities filmmaker Adam Dunn.
3. Puppies & Trains had an Awesome Summer
I've been sitting on this one for a few weeks, but with summer officially winding down this week we had better peep this new video from Puppies & Trains, "Awesome Summer," while it's still somewhat timely. Supperhopper lives!
4. CLAPS have Glory, Glory
Minimalist synth lovers CLAPS released their new album, Glory, Glory, this past July; this month, they teamed up with visual artist Suzanne Pfutzenreuter to create an '80s-inspired, psychedelic, aesthetically congruous video for their title track.
5. Daredevil Christopher Wright have a flashback
Here's another time-travelling music video, this time featuring the Daredevil Christopher Wright and some important safety lessons from the '50s. The DCW will be our guests on this week's all-Eau Claire edition of the Local Show, which you will be able to find archived here.
