Friday Five: The Chalice, Haunted Heads, Bomba de Luz

by Andrea Swensson

September 07, 2012

I know I say this every week, but seriously: Summer is winding down, it's still nice out, and there's a ton going on outdoors this weekend. Don't forget to go outside!

In the meantime, here's a handful of fresh videos to help you wind down your work week in style...

1. The Chalice drop first video

Have I mentioned how much I love this burgeoning hip-hop trio? Oh I have? Multiple times? All right. Well then you'll just have to watch them in action and decide for yourself:

2. Haunted Heads go for a ride

Much like MPLS.TV's City of Music series, Duluth-based filmmakers Northern Outpost like to capture local bands in unusual locations. I'm digging the back-of-the-van approach and the sunny power-pop of their most recent featured artist, Haunted Heads:

3. Nick Larsen unveils new solo project

Maudlin drummer Nick Larsen has a few new projects up his sleeve (including Edward the Confessor, which just played its debut show), and this week we got a chance to hear what another one of those endeavors sounds like. Introducing Monolog, shot by Live Letters' Sara Montour:

4. Bomba de Luz stop by the studio

Another band I've been yapping about lately, Bomba de Luz, were in the Current's studios recently to record an in-studio for the Local Show. Read more about frontwoman Lydia Hoglund in my profile, and see her in action here:

5. Beat Detectives make their debut

Food Pyramid fans, take note: This new side project just released their first track this week. And it comes complete with a dizzying montage of clip art from 1995. Remember when the internet was a novelty?
