Astronautalis, the Big Wu, Willie Murphy headlining Mid West Music Fest 2013

by Andrea Swensson

March 01, 2013

Now in its fourth year, the Mid West Music Fest is set to take over Winona, Minnesota on April 18, 19, and 20.

MWMF unveiled its initial lineup of headliners today, and it's just the tip of the iceberg for a roster that will eventually include over 100 acts. Rapper and master freestyler Astronautalis, jam band the Big Wu, bluesman Willie Murphy, and jazz singer Claudia Schmidt are at the top of the eclectic lineup, along with Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps (who just rebooted as a powerhouse soul group) and funk-pop band Apollo Cobra, one of my favorite acts at the festival last year.

Willie Murphy will actually be appearing as part of a larger celebration of Red House Records' 30th anniversary on April 19; he'll headline a show with the Pines and Andra Suchy.

For those unfamiliar with the fledgling music gathering, the MWMF is a multi-venue event that sprawls downtown Winona and has the club-hopping feel of a miniature SXSW. The festival launched a new website today, so keep tabs on their site for more information about the lineup and to pick up tickets. And for more on the MWMF, check out my coverage of last year's event.
