Art-A-Whirl 2013: A local music lover’s guide

by Andrea Swensson

May 16, 2013

As its name suggests, Art-A-Whirl is a celebration of all of the talented artists who live and work in Northeast Minneapolis. In addition to the hundreds of visual and fine artists who will open their galleries and studios to the public this weekend, Art-A-Whirl also has a huge musical component, with dozens of bands lining up to play free shows throughout the neighborhood. The result is a joyous, all-encompassing festival that offers something to see, smell, hear, and taste at every turn.

One of the best ways to enjoy Art-A-Whirl is simply to head to Northeast and wander around, allowing your senses to guide the way. But for those who want to be a bit more intentional in the music they're hearing this weekend, I've compiled a list of set times for the many shows happening Friday through Sunday.

Get out your map, jot down a few notes, and see where this weekend takes you. All venues are located in Northeast Minneapolis. See you out at Art-A-Whirl!
