Haley Bonar, Secret Stash Soul Revue, Night Moves playing Summit’s Backyard Bash

by Andrea Swensson

July 24, 2013

It's been a big year for the Secret Stash Soul Revue. Still riding high off the release of the Twin Cities Funk & Soul: Lost R&B Grooves from Minneapolis/St. Paul 1964-1979 compilation, groups like the Valdons and Sonny Knight have continued making appearances around town, selling out venues like Icehouse, the Dakota, and First Avenue, where they played the Current's birthday party and had the crowd shrieking in appreciation. So it's no surprise that Summit tapped the supergroup to headline their Backyard Bash, scheduled for Saturday, September 7.

In what's quickly becoming one of the largest local lineups of the summer, thanks in part to the involvement of the Minnesota Music Coalition, the Backyard Bash has quite the diverse lineup planned for this year's installment. From hip-hop to folk to blues to space-rock, the acts on this year's bill have one thing in common: they're all accustomed to playing outdoor festivals and should help to make for one killer party.

As with last year, half of the ticket sales for the Backyard Bash go toward the MMC, a nonprofit that supports independent musicians in Minnesota.
