Friday Five: Mason Jennings, Dan Wilson, and more new MN music videos
November 01, 2013
Happy Friday! Here's a handful of fresh Minnesota-made music videos to help you pass these last few workweek hours...
Mason Jennings' Wilderness
If you only watch one Minnesota music video this week, make it this one. Filmed by Dan Huiting in Marfa, Texas, and featuring a cameo from local artist Lauren Josephine, the video for Jennings' new song "Wilderness" captures the expansive, lonesome, and beautiful vibe of his new record, Always Been.
Dan Wilson's sketches
This new lyric video from Dan Wilson features some of the songwriter's original sketches, and it makes for a moody accompaniment to his gorgeous new song "Disappearing."
Rogue Valley's car wash concert
I've driven past this self-service car wash hundreds of times (it's on Lyndale Ave. and 22nd St., across from the SuperAmerica), but never once imagined what it might sound like to host a concert in one of its stalls. Thanks to Rogue Valley and filmmaker Ben Handler, who recorded this as part of his "Afterhours Sessions," now we all know what we've been missing.
Step Rockets' jellyfishes
Jellyfishes. There's something really pleasing about that word. Jellyfishes. This new video from Step Rockets features a few of 'em, in addition to some other aquatic life and images of the rising rock band.
Brilliant Beast's stop-motion
One benefit of having a photographer in your band is that you can create your own artistic music videos. Case in point, Brilliant Beast, whose member Mark N. Kartarik is also a budding photo and videographer here in town. If you like what you hear, catch them playing a release show for their new Where Do You Want on November 8 at Cause Spirits and Soundbar.
