“Bring Me Your Mugs”: Here’s the St. Vincent coffee you’ve been waiting for

by Jay Gabler

May 12, 2014

From the Ink Spots' "Java Jive" to Otis Redding's "Cigarettes and Coffee" to Bob Marley's "One Cup of Coffee" to Bob Dylan's "One More Cup of Coffee," coffee has probably inspired more songs than any other non-alcoholic beverage. Now St. Vincent, riding high on the success of her new eponymous album, is getting even higher with a custom coffee: "Bring Me Your Mugs."

"I love coffee," St. Vincent said in a statement issued via coffee site Sprudge. "I sometimes get excited at night thinking of the coffee I’ll get to drink in the morning. Coffee is reason to wake up.  There are other reasons, of course. But coffee is the incentive, at the very least. I love Intelligentsia coffee. I have stood at their counter waiting for my order, like a fan waiting for a show. Eager. Expectant.  So when my favorite coffee shop approached me about collaborating on a signature coffee, I was thrilled."

In keeping with her reputation for quality, the singer-songwriter is partnering with revered Chicago-based roaster Intelligentsia Coffee, which is selling St. Vincent's signature coffee in its stores along with copies of her new album; the coffee is expected to be available for mail order in coming days. In the meantime, you can always swing by Glam Doll Donuts in Minneapolis and get your indie-rock java fix with a cup of Intelligentsia and a Night Moves doughnut featuring blackberry jam, blackberry Hennessy, and brown sugar bits.
