Watch the Replacements perform at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta

Screen grab from YouTube

The Replacements returned to the stage this past weekend to perform at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Festival, a three-day gathering that also included performances by Minnesota’s Trampled by Turtles and Mason Jennings and headlining sets by the Alabama Shakes, the National, and Modest Mouse.

As with their recent Coachella appearance, the band was joined for the majority of their set by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, who added an extra layer of guitar and served as Westerberg’s foil as the band romped through a list of fan favorites. Given Armstrong’s Minnesota ties (he met his wife, Adrienne Nesser, when Green Day was playing a show in Minneapolis), it raises the question: Will he be on stage at Midway Stadium when the Replacements finally play their homecoming show on September 13?

Members of Trampled by Turtles and Mason Jennings (who were both at the festival on Sunday) were standing side-stage for the Replacements’ show, and Trampled’s Ryan Young posted several updates from the gig to his Instagram account:

Other attendees also quickly uploaded footage from the band’s set to YouTube. Here’s video of the Replacements playing “Bastards of Young” with Billie Joe Armstrong on guitar:

Here’s a snippet of “I’ll Be You”:

And here’s a video with lower-quality audio shot from the edge of the stage:
