Guided By Voices spoof Simon and Garfunkel in new video for “Bad Love Is Easy to Do”

by Jay Gabler

June 09, 2014

From A Mighty Wind to Inside Llewyn Davis, the 60s folk revival has proven fertile ground for fiction and spoofery. The latter is much in evidence in Guided By Voices' video for "Bad Love is Easy to Do," the lead single from their new album Cool Planet.

The video, which premiered today on Funny or Die, casts comedians Rob Corddry and Brian Huskey as "Pollard and Sprout," a folk duo who sound like GBV's Bob Pollard and Tobin Sprout but who look like a Simon-and-Garfunkelesque pair circa 1965. As they play "Bad Love" on the fictional black-and-white show Pop Hits!, tensions between the two escalate and they ultimately come to blows. Playing both sides against the middle is Katy Goodman of La Sera and Vivian Girls, reminding us all why bangs came back.

It's a distinct possibility that GBV will bust out some "Bad Love" when they play Rock the Garden on June 22. Tickets are now available. In the meantime, let's hope that for the next Cool Planet parody video, Brad Pitt makes himself available.
