What will be the songs of the summer this year—the new songs that people will be playing as they enjoy relaxing in the warm weather? Last week, staff at the Current shared our picks, and we invited you to share yours. You weighed in on our site, on Twitter, and on Facebook. Here are some of the songs you suggested, which we’ve also put into a Spotify playlist. Have more suggestions? Add them in the comment section below!
Literally anything from Lizzobangers… How about “W.E.R.K Part II”?
Any track from MØ’s No Mythologies to Follow…”Maiden” is a personal fav.
“I Wanna Get Better” by Bleachers
I can’t believe the Old 97’s “Longer Than You’ve Been Alive” isn’t on the list. I suspect that this will be played at numerous concerts this summer, by bands other than the 97’s. I hope the Hold Steady or Paul [Westerberg, of the Replacements] does a rendition 9.13.14.
“Do You Wanna (Dance)?” – The Hudson Branch
YES, Jade & Mary, please bring on more summer and Benjamin Booker.
But of course John Mark Nelson’s “Boy” is sticking to my brain like gum sticks to hair.
Brian Just Band – “Enlightenment”!
It’s Chromeo or Iggy Azalea.
“Foolproof” by the Social Disaster
Anything by Jeremy Messersmith!
Joseph M. Adams
“The Downeaster ‘Alexa'” by Billy Joel
“Stolen Dance” by Milky Chance
Shelby Marie LeRoy
“Southern Sun,” Boy and Bear
Pretty much Black Diet’s entire album!
Anything by The Age of Being Good Together.
Adventure Time, “Punch Your Buns (Ryden Ridge Remix)”
Kyle Anthony Shallbetter
Now that their album’s out, “Climbing Walls” by Strange Talk is back on the playlist for me. Thinking I’m gonna spring for Tycho’s Awake album too. Anything from Hydeout Productions and most anything featured on Adult Swim’s TV bumps is a good call too.
Flora Cash, “Freakin’ Love”
Len, “Steal My Sunshine”
Amy E. Fisher
Seriously can’t choose one from the debut album by Satellite Paradiso. This is the bomb!
“Turn Down For What.” (Not much to pick from.)
Paul M. Soukup
John Mark Nelson, “Boy.”
Sublime, “What Happened.” Lol.
I have a sad confession, but MKTO—”Classic.” Yeah, I said it.
Hate to say it, but I’m digging “Come Get It Bae” by Pharrell.
“Drove Me Wild” by Tegan and Sara.
Stereo Confession—”Video Games.”
Try something new like Sol Shine.
Jack and The Coax—”Burn It to the Ground”!
Looking forward to the new Trampled By Turtles album! I also just started listening to Atoms for Peace and I might be obsessed with it.
Without a doubt: Far East Movement featuring Riff Raff, “The Illest.”
