Songs of the Summer 2014: Here are your picks

by Jay Gabler

June 13, 2014

What will be the songs of the summer this year—the new songs that people will be playing as they enjoy relaxing in the warm weather? Last week, staff at the Current shared our picks, and we invited you to share yours. You weighed in on our site, on Twitter, and on Facebook. Here are some of the songs you suggested, which we've also put into a Spotify playlist. Have more suggestions? Add them in the comment section below!

Abby LeGare

Literally anything from Lizzobangers... How about "W.E.R.K Part II"?

Mallory Guinee

Any track from MØ's No Mythologies to Follow..."Maiden" is a personal fav.

Erik Fahnestock

"I Wanna Get Better" by Bleachers

Danny

I can't believe the Old 97's "Longer Than You've Been Alive" isn't on the list. I suspect that this will be played at numerous concerts this summer, by bands other than the 97's. I hope the Hold Steady or Paul [Westerberg, of the Replacements] does a rendition 9.13.14.

Anna Ofsa

"Do You Wanna (Dance)?" - The Hudson Branch

Deanna Johnson

YES, Jade & Mary, please bring on more summer and Benjamin Booker.

Hallur Danielsen

But of course John Mark Nelson's "Boy" is sticking to my brain like gum sticks to hair.

Alan

Brian Just Band - "Enlightenment"!

Mike Ryerse

It's Chromeo or Iggy Azalea.

Ryan Nelson

"Foolproof" by the Social Disaster

Betsy Gabler

Anything by Jeremy Messersmith!

Joseph M. Adams

"The Downeaster 'Alexa'" by Billy Joel

Bernhard Flämig

"Stolen Dance" by Milky Chance

Brandon Leitch

Tycho's "Awake"

Shelby Marie LeRoy

"Southern Sun," Boy and Bear

Tami Steinke

Pretty much Black Diet's entire album!

Tyler Davis

Anything by The Age of Being Good Together.

Phill Hansen

Adventure Time, "Punch Your Buns (Ryden Ridge Remix)"

Kyle Anthony Shallbetter

Now that their album's out, "Climbing Walls" by Strange Talk is back on the playlist for me. Thinking I'm gonna spring for Tycho's Awake album too. Anything from Hydeout Productions and most anything featured on Adult Swim's TV bumps is a good call too.

Cole Randall

Flora Cash, "Freakin' Love"

Christian Johnson

Len, "Steal My Sunshine"

Amy E. Fisher

Seriously can't choose one from the debut album by Satellite Paradiso. This is the bomb!

Tammy Hinrichs

"Turn Down For What." (Not much to pick from.)

Paul M. Soukup

John Mark Nelson, "Boy."

Alicia McClellan

Sublime, "What Happened." Lol.

Jesse Roberson

I have a sad confession, but MKTO—"Classic." Yeah, I said it.

Mike Vourlos

Hate to say it, but I'm digging "Come Get It Bae" by Pharrell.

Angie Ibarra

"Drove Me Wild" by Tegan and Sara.

Bree Blevins

Stereo Confession—"Video Games."

Debra Michlitsch

Try something new like Sol Shine.

Tom Lescovich

Jack and The Coax—"Burn It to the Ground"!

Micah Chermak

Looking forward to the new Trampled By Turtles album! I also just started listening to Atoms for Peace and I might be obsessed with it.

Anthony Bender

Without a doubt: Far East Movement featuring Riff Raff, "The Illest."

Drew Helland
