Video Premiere: Pieta Brown, “All My Rain”

by Mike Pengra

July 29, 2014

In September, Pieta Brown is releasing a new record called Paradise Outlaw. We're proud to present the premiere of the video for “All My Rain,” a track from that forthcoming album.

The new album, Brown's sixth, was recorded at the Wisconsin woodland studio of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Volcano Choir), but not with a lot of overdubbing. Brown says she assembled the people she’s most comfortable playing with live and let the room do the work. The song has a very laid-back feel to it, as many of Brown’s songs do, and the banjo and percussion behind her guitar and vocal track is just about perfect.

Brown's last album, Mercury, came out in 2011. This new collection from St. Paul's Red House Records is mostly original, but features a cover of a Mark Knopfler song and a duet with Amos Lee—as well as a guest appearance by Justin Vernon. Brown says her focus on Paradise Outlaw was less on songwriting and more about collaboration with other musicians.

This video is presented in association with Radio Heartland, Minnesota Public Radio's singer-songwriter music stream.
