Ghostbusters 3 plans announced, Har Mar Superstar still not involved…yet

by Jay Gabler

October 09, 2014

Yesterday, Bridesmaids director Paul Feig confirmed that he's slated to direct Ghostbusters 3. Feig's involvement represents a rethinking of the long-planned sequel, with director Ivan Reitman (who helmed the first two installments) and screenwriter Dan Aykroyd stepping aside to allow the franchise to be entirely reimagined by Feig and screenwriter Katie Dippold (The Heat).

Though Ghostbusters 3 is expected to begin filming next year, a cast has not yet been announced. Feig says the new film will star hilarious women, and Bill Murray (a.k.a. Peter Venkman) suggested such potential stars as Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.

A name not yet mentioned in association with the new film—to the disappointment of at least 2,085 people—is Sean Tillmann, a.k.a. Har Mar Superstar. In 2010, the blog Monster Fresh launched a campaign to cast Tillmann in the third Ghostbusters film. With Tillmann's approval, a Facebook page dedicated to the campaign garnered over two thousand likes. The campaign was reported in City Pages and LOL/OMG, helping to fuel the flames.

Now that Ghostbusters 3 is confirmed, will the campaign to get Har Mar in the movie be reactivated? It seems likely; in the meantime, Har Mar didn't hurt his case by retweeting a vintage photo of Murray standing in front of a Times Square peep show.
