As a special treat this Christmas week, Tim Mahoney and Robert Robinson have shared their new cover of "Put a Little Love in Your Heart." The song was first released in 1969 by Jackie DeShannon, and became closely associated with the holiday season two decades later when a cover by Annie Lennox and Al Green appeared in the Bill Murray spoof Scrooged. The new version by Mahoney and Robinson emphasizes the tenderness of this timeless classic.
Both artists are storied local vocalists. Mahoney is a veteran singer-songwriter who caught the nation's ear when he appeared on The Voice in 2011. Robinson is a pillar of the Minnesota gospel music community, a longtime leader of the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir. The two came together this year to record this duet at RiverRock Studios, the Northeast Minneapolis studio and label that recently produced "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by Eric Mayson with Caroline Smith.
The song will be available for purchase on iTunes soon. For more local holiday music, listen to our Local Current stream today between noon and 6:00 p.m. for a full afternoon of Minnesota-made seasonal tunes.
