Premiere: Eric Mayson and Caroline Smith sing ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’

by Jay Gabler

December 09, 2014

Eric Mayson, well-known for lending vocal and multi-instrumental support to live and recorded work by a multitude of Minnesota artists, is going solo with a forthcoming EP to be released via RiverRock Music Group. To celebrate the signing, Mayson has recorded a cover of the seasonal classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" with help from his friend Caroline Smith. We're pleased to premiere this single and video, below.

RiverRock Music Group is a new record label and entertainment company founded by Eric Blomquist, co-owner and head engineer of RiverRock Studios. (That's Blomquist playing sax on the single.) In addition to Mayson, RiverRock's roster includes singer-songwriter Sarah Morris. Mayson's debut EP is slated for release this spring.

"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" was first recorded by Darlene Love for Phil Spector's legendary 1963 holiday album A Christmas Gift for You. The song—written by Spector with Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich—has since been covered by artists including Mariah Carey, U2, R.E.M., and Fifth Harmony.
