A Taste of Minnesota, the celebration of food and music held each Independence Day weekend, will return this summer to the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia—where the festival took place last summer after being displaced from Harriet Island due to flooding.
A press release from festival organizers says they settled on a return to Waconia due to the site's "close proximity to the Twin Cities, the layout of the grounds, and most of all the outpouring of support from the Waconia community."
Organizers received precisely the opposite reaction when they explored the possibility of moving to the Washington County Fairgrounds: dozens of community members attended a meeting last month, where many expressed concerns about negative effects from alcohol sales, noise, and crowding.
Organizers promise "big-name concerts" when the festival returns to Waconia from July 2-5, but we won't learn the big names until the lineup is announced this spring.
