Information Society to play Fine Line on April 18

by Jay Gabler

February 12, 2015

On April 18, Information Society will play their first local show since 2009: they've booked a gig at the Fine Line, calling it their "Hello World hometown party" in reference to their Twin Cities roots—though none of the band members currently reside in Minnesota. _Hello World (note the preceding underscore) is the group's most recent album, released last September to warm reviews.

Formed at Macalester College in 1982, the synth-pop trio rose to national fame that peaked with their 1988 hit single "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)," which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The original lineup lost steam by the mid-90s, and there were performances and recordings featuring various configurations of new members, but all three original members—Kurt Larson, Paul Robb, and James Cassidy—regrouped for 2007's Synthesizer. After another quiet period, the group re-emerged to release _hello World, and will be taking the stage together at the Fine Line.

Tickets for the Fine Line show are $20, on sale now. For more on Information Society, read Andrea Swensson's 2013 interview with Paul Robb.
