Friday Five: Birthday Suits, K.Raydio, and more new Minnesota music videos

by Andrea Swensson

April 24, 2015

Happy Friday! Here's your weekly look at the latest Minnesota music videos—including a brand new one from Birthday Suits, which we are pleased to debut at the top of the order today.

Birthday Suits

With a highly anticipated new album Spin the Bottle: Adult Party due out next month, Birthday Suits sent over this video for the single "Golden Week." They'll play a release show—which also doubles as their 10th anniversary celebration—at the Turf Club on May 2 with support from Pink Mink and Teenage Moods.

K.Raydio and O-D

You've checked out this sultry, soulful retro-futuristic EP from K.Raydio and O-D, right? One Drop? Yes? Ok, good. It almost got awkward for a minute there. This new video for "The Back Wall" was co-directed by Medium Zach of Big Quarters fame and Tommy Ellis.

Ruben with General B and the Wiz

I don't know where this was recorded, but I want to go there. Stillwater's Ruben and their friends in General B and the Wiz formed a delightful '60s pop "super-band" and released a pair of videos shot by Beaudry Filmworks for Record Store Day. Check out the second video here, and hey, did you know you can see both of these bands at the Mid West Music Fest in Winona tonight?

Coastal Cabins

Toronto may have Crystal Castles, but here in Minneapolis we build Coastal Cabins instead. This young duo met while attending Luther College down in Decorah, Iowa, and have already progressed by leaps and bounds in the short time they've been releasing music in the Twin Cities. Both the lyrics and the video for their new single, "Driftless," capture that aimless, floundering feeling of your early 20s perfectly; if you dig it as much as I do, you can download the track on SoundCloud.

ACTN

Ahead of their big show tonight at Icehouse with Beasthead, the self-described "deathpop" band ACTN sent over their latest video for "My Flesh is Weakness." Follow the band's activities and hear more of their tunes here.
