Today’s Music News: Jack White thrills at Coachella

Jack White kicked out a two-hour, career-spanning set on the first night of the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. Declaring several times, "Music is sacred!", White opened his set with "Icky Thump". He went on to play several songs from his 2014 album, Lazaretto, as well as many selections from his back catalogue. White's set was also peppered with many generous, blazing solos. (Rolling Stone)

Mumford and Sons have slammed Jay Z's new artist-owned streaming service, Tidal. “We wouldn’t have joined it anyway, even if they had asked," Marcus Mumford told the Daily Beast. "We don’t want to be tribal." Mumford and Sons said the service will only make rich artists richer but will do little to help smaller indie bands. (The Daily Beast)

On Saturday, Justin Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel announced the birth of their first child, a son they have named Silas Randall Timberlake. (BBC)

Samantha Cameron, wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, recently told British newspaper the Daily Mail she is a fan of BBC Radio 6 and of the bands War on Drugs and Minneapolis's own Poliça. (NME)

Keith Richards has said the Rolling Stones should record a new album. Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Richards said “We’re looking for the right time slot to bring it out. The Stones have been working so much lately that I’ve been holding off until we could find a reasonable time. I think it’s September, but I don’t know for sure." The Stones' last album was A Bigger Bang, released in 2005. (Nova.ie)

Hozier wrapped up his 50-minute set at Coachella's first weekend by inviting Este Haim onstage to join him in a cover of The Time's "Jungle Love." Este Haim and her sisters had previously performed "Jungle Love" on Jimmy Kimmel Live, in a mashup dubbed Morris Day and the Haim. (Billboard)

Two-year-old DJ AJ has become a viral sensation in South Africa. Although the toddler is still learning to form words and sentences, he is already skilled at selecting and playing music from a laptop. The child became adept at DJing after he began playing with a DJ app on his parents' iPad. (Star Tribune)

The Official U.K. Charts Company has announced it will publish weekly charts that track the sales of the top 40 vinyl albums and vinyl singles. The new charts were unveiled this past weekend to coincide with the upcoming Record Store Day. (Billboard)

The Subway Music in the Zoo concert series at the Weesner Family Amphitheater at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, Minn., has been announced. The lineup includes such artists as Lucinda Williams, Salt 'n' Pepa, Mason Jennings with S. Carey, Black Joe Lewis with Caroline Smith, and the Okee Dokee Brothers. The entire lineup has been posted online. Tickets go on sale Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m., at the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis, via Sue McLean and through etix.com. (Sue McLean)
